Update (14 Apr 2012): Sometime near the beginning of August 2011, it appears that the Labs Edition no longer signs in to a Google account properly. People still interested in an alternative to the standard Talk client may want to take a look at Google Chat for Chrome.
Tonight I experienced an issue with installing the Labs Edition of Google Talk (Windows 7 32Bit). The installer downloaded just fine, but upon running it, it silently failed with no indication of a progress bar or error message. I thought I would take a look around before abandoning the idea completely. It looks like there are other people having the same issue as well, but neither the compatibility modes nor turning off my security software seemed to help.
Previously I had recommended to visit the direct download link of the msi file on the Google servers, but since then the Labs client has stopped funtioning properly (see update at the top of this post).
Thanks !! I was struggling as well with the gtalk installation on windows 7 32Bit. Its working now!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this, exactly what I needed. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks.. now it working..
ReplyDeleteSehr gut! Ich werde definitiv folgen ihrem blog in den nächsten tagen.
ReplyDeleteVielen dank Tim! Sie werden nicht enttäuscht!

ReplyDeleteworked for me too ... thanks!
ReplyDeleteHmmm its still not working for me. Im using Windows 7 Starter (32 bit) as well.. Any work around??
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I haven't seen any other workarounds on this issue, other than enabling compatibility modes on the installer and disabling security software.
ReplyDeleteIs there no indication that it is installing, even with the standalone installer from my link above?
Karl Horky. Its not working in my windows 7 (32 bit). I downloaded form the link that you recommended.yet problem pertains still.
ReplyDeleteThough i enabled my compatibility mode on and disabled all securities,it doesn't indicate any.
I'm not sure what the problem is Pradeep. It doesn't display any error messages? When you run the setup file, does anything happen at all? You could try the regular edition instead ( http://www.google.com/talk/ ) or you could try running the popout version of Google Talk ( http://talkgadget.google.com/talkgadget/popout ) as a desktop application in Chrome ( http://www.brighthub.com/internet/google/articles/7113.aspx ) or with Mozilla Prism ( http://lifebaker.com/en/113/stay-invisible-at-google-talk-with-prism ). Or of course just keep a gmail tab open.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
ReplyDeleteIt installed, but it wouldn't log in to my account. It just appeared stuck. I think this was my last try, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteInstalled correctly...but tried to log in to my account. It seems to be stuck up. any ideas
ReplyDeleteIt appears that the Labs Edition is not working anymore. It attempts to authenticate with talk.google.com, but receives a 500 in return (internal server error). Other people are having the same issue: http://groups.google.com/group/google-talk-labs-edition-discussion-group/
ReplyDeleteIt seem as if Google has hired dumbheads. In gtalk you cannot be in invisible mode and also there is no option to deactivate "idle" as your status.
ReplyDeleteHow many more years will it take for you fellows to add those features?
Try the Google Chat extension for Chrome. It has both of those features: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chat-for-google/nckgahadagoaajjgafhacjanaoiihapd
DeleteKarl Horky : The link is no more working bro..
ReplyDeleteThanks, I've removed the link. The Labs edition doesn't function properly anymore anyway.
